Fernweh #NewNormal #AtoZ

 Fernweh

(German) An Ache for distant places

Humans since time immemorial

needed more than

shelter, bread, and sex

home, hearth, and safety

the urge that made them

conquer mountains

sail the seas

look for life beyond this blue dot

and now

this sense of adventure

lies caged

in fear.

Mechanical human wings

oars and wheels

are now chained

but has the Fernweh

been fueled

or has it ceased?

  1. Fernweh... I am sure so many must be feeling this since the Covid chained us indoors.

  2. I would say my Fernweh has calmed, or that less distant places have replaced it.

  3. Ii think my Fernweh has become calmed rather than overtaking me. I still long to see more places, but the emphasis isn’t there.

  4. I like this.
I'll be back to see more.
Good luck with the rest of the challenge.

  5. Lovely poem. I don't think fernweh can be caged. I see people planning travels, so looks like it has only increased because of being chained indoors for long.

  6. Nice! There's a similar word in Spanish. English is such a restrited language!

  8. "Fernweh" immediately caught my attention because German is my first language. Plus I have been suffering from Fernweh ever since this pandemic started.

  11. Beautiful word and a deep thought woven in a few words.
It will come back with vigour, just like the virus, someday.

  12. I think the Fernweh has paused , ceased for a while only to fuel itself. I am seeing the positive side of things.
