Some of us have the privileges

so many that we lose count

and we fail to identify

often when and how 

A privilege

becomes a cage

Food not for survival

but food to satiate this rage

this sadness

The hopelessness of this plague

What is on your plate?

Is it just food?

or an opiate.

(Bengali– Pronounced [gho-rar-deem])

A sarcastic term for ‘nothing’ or false hope. It literally means ‘horse’s egg’, therefore representing something that doesn’t exist.

First, they said the summer would cure it

 

Then they said let's think of us as a herd

Later they hoped it will cure itself

Then they looked for miracle divine

places of worship, or some shrine

Then we hoped against hope

If horses could lay eggs

and elephants could fly 

we all loved to believe

it can't touch us

someone else will die.

Drapetomania

(Greek) An overwhelming urge to run away

Here is an invisible cage

a soul serving a life sentence

the urge to fly

to run away

to be Icarus for a day

to fly close to the sun

whatever consequences

might come my way

but then the fear freezes the mind

and I run far away in a

"Mindcation" 

that is all I can afford

the Blue mosque, or seashells

or somewhere in the hills

the urge to break free

to run away.

So it was here to stay

I looked it in the eye

in the quiet of many nights

amidst the lonely panic

in the middle of an anxiety attack

it stood firm

testing all I had!

A year later 

it stands firm again

in that dark spot 

in my bedroom and my heart

and I stand where I do

surviving every day

not on air

just chutzpah!

(Latin) the war of all against all

Since time immemorial

nations and cultures 

honour their warriors

glorify their wars

in awards and honours 

and lofty memorials

and then happens a war

that involves the entire world

against an invisible foe

nobody against nobody

or everyone against every one

the lines are drawn

Man/Woman, Poor/Rich

Urban/Rural, Singular/plural

Native/foreign

Hope and vain

the war continues

some wounded some slain

some safe as yet some in pain

who is fighting whom

the sides are yet not known

the war of all against all unknown.
