Marasim
(Urdu) Relations
People meet all the time
and get entangled like woolen threads
a knot here, a twist there
some even fading and some
leaving a shade on the other
And sometimes people break too
Like tense strings
snap!
memory of a marasim
and if they join again
the knot remains.
Tough times
are expensive
They cost a lot
sometimes sanity, health
sometimes a few precious marasim.

रहिमन धागा प्रेम का, मत तोड़ो चटकाय,

May all the true relationships pass through all the time-tests!!
Yes that couplet was on my mind too Thanks
DeleteIt is hard to sustain relationships in these times. Sometimes too much togetherness can become toxic... and sometimes too much absence does make you forget
ReplyDeleteYes what a dichotomy
DeleteThe title reminded me of Jagjeet singh's famous album Marasim.
ReplyDeleteLoved this poem, people meet like threads, with knots, twists & tensed too.
Yes times cost marasim...
I rememeber that album too
DeleteSo true. Tough times are expensive.
ReplyDeleteThe knots' analogy puts me in mind of Kabir's doha.
Yes a subconscious reference maybe
DeleteSo true! Some drift away, some break, and some shatter but heal the person. That's all life is about, and our choices decide the next course.
ReplyDeleteYes Srivalli you are right
ReplyDeleteHow beautifully you have put it. I love visiting your blog, your poems are so fluid!
ReplyDeleteThanks Harshita
DeleteThe thread analogy is perfect. I didn't know the word marasim, so thanks for introducing that as well.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome
DeleteSo true, of friends and colleagues -- even family. When it works, the woven threads form a beautiful fabric, but when it breaks, there is often no patch to make a good repair. https://mollyscanopy.com/2021/04/margot-moose-and-ancestral-connections-atozchallenge/
ReplyDeleteYes Molly you are right
DeleteDo you think that sometimes the knot after the break can end making things stronger? I've seen it go both ways. Weekends In Maine
ReplyDeleteYes might happen but rarely
ReplyDeleteRelationships are fragile and delicate and if handled either very tightly or very loosely is sure to develop glitches. The word itself is so beautiful and I loved the poem.
ReplyDeleteYes relationships are complex, thanks for visiting
ReplyDeleteThis was so interestingly written.People do retain the knots in their relationships even when we get back together.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Amrita, yes the harsh truth
